Itching for something fresh in Fantasy Football, I decided to join a Dynasty Auction league - a first for both formats. I'm pretty content with my team, though it might be a bit on the win-now side. According to Dynasty Daddy, I have the #1 ranked starters, but the worst ranked team. Yeah...I kind of spent my entire budget a bit too early. So towards the end of the draft, with no more than a $1 to spend on several bench players, I had to dig real deep to find hidden gems. So a genius idea: Use Bard AI to help me find sleeper picks nobody else would know about. What did I ask? Well, you know how you might obsessively follow your team's training camp and know about obscure guy's that are killing it, but fans of other teams would never have any idea? Those random 7th rounders or undrafted free agents? Yeah, well AI can be that fan for every team, can't it? "Hello, I'm currently participating in a Dynasty Fantasy Football League auction draft. Please find me extremely young players with great athletic measurables that are drawing praise in their respective training camps." And just like that, I got a a list. Here's the first list it gave me.
Treylon Burks, WR TEN
Jahan Dotson, WR WAS
Christian Watson, WR GB
Tyquan Thornton, WR NE
Dameon Pierce, RB HOU
Isaiah Spiller, RB LAC
Sam Laporta, DET
Tank Dell, WR HOU
Not too shabby. Obviously some of these guys are very well-known in fantasy circles. Burks, Dotson, Watson, and Pierce are all popular picks in Dynasty Drafts, and they were quite expensive in our auction. However, I did wind up getting two of these guys due to being more unknown: Thornton, WR for NE, and Spiller, the presumable 2nd RB in SD. Nice. They were cheap with high upside. But I needed even more obscure players, so I told AI to make another list, but also prioritizing obscurity. Here's the next list:
Khalil Shakir, WR BUF
Tutu Atwell, WR NE
Jalen Tolbert, WR LAR
Alec Pierce, WR IND
Kenneth Gainwell, RB PHI
Tyler Badie, RB DEN
Brevin Jordan, TE HOU
Grant Calcaterra, TE PHI
Isaiah Likely, TE BAL
And just like that, I had a lot more research to conduct. My method? Search each player in r/dynastyff to find the consensus opinion and read training camp reports. I really liked Pierce, but unfortunately someone else in the league was onto him and I just didn't have enough budget to outbid him. But I did wind up getting Atwell, Badie, and Tolbert for $1 each. Huge success. But I still needed more. So I asked it to find even more obscure players. Here's the next list:
Andrei Iosivas, WR CIN
Jeremy Ruckert, TE NYJ
Bo Melton, WR GB
Samore Toure, WR GB
Romeo Doubs, WR GB
Kyle Philips, WR TEN
Puka Nakua, WR LAC
A.T. Perry, WR NO
Once again, I performed my due diligence. Doubs seemed super promising, but once again, I was outbid. But another guy on this list caught my eye, and that's Andrei Iosivas, a 6'3 WR who was a heptathlon champion at Princeton. I noticed Iosivas was getting rave reviews in training camp, a tremendous athlete, and received 10 targets in back-to-back preseason games. Like Iosivas, Nakua was another guy I grabbed whose preseason and training camp performance was being immensely hyped up. I felt extremely confident in my Nakua and Iosivas picks. I also grabbed Toure and Perry.
All in all, I think AI did a very good job of instantly compiling lists of young talent and really helped me speed up my process of due diligence. Feel free to use these lists if you find yourself in a position like me - deadass broke at the end of an auction draft, desperate to find any kind of talent.
